J. Guerra, MD, FACS
Biography
James,
J. Guerra, MD, 38, is a board certified orthopedic surgeon and sports
medicine specialist. An honors graduate of Northwestern University
Medical
School in Chicago, Illinois. Dr. Guerra completed his orthopedic residency
at the University of Pennsylvania. Then, he spent one year of advanced
fellowship training in sports medicine at the prestigious American
Sports
Medicine Institute in Birmingham, Alabama, with internationally known
sports medicine expert James R. Andrews, MD. This training provided
him
with exposure to many of Dr. Andrews's clients including Bo Jackson and
Michael Jordan.
Previously
the head of Sports Medicine for the Cleveland Clinic Florida, Dr. Guerra
founded Collier Sports Medicine and Orthopaedic Center in 1999. He is
an innovator and works closely with several arthroscopic companies to
develop new instruments and techniques.
Dr.
Guerra was recently named head team physician for the Florida Firecats
Arena Football team. He is also team physician for Florida Gulf Coast
University (FGCU) and St. John Neuman High School as well as medical director
for the NCH Sports Medicine Program. He is a consulting team physician
for the Baltimore Orioles (MLB) and previously was the assistant team
physician for the Florida Panthers (NHL).
A
member of several professional societies including the American Orthopaedic
Society for Sports Medicine, Arthroscopy Association of North America
and the American Sports Medicine Fellowship Society. Dr. Guerra also serves
as an instructor in arthroscopic surgery for the American Academy of Orthopaedic
Surgeons. He has authored 31 publications and has lectured at national
and international meetings.
